Tod was born and raised in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii. He originally wanted to design prosthetics for the disabled as a bioengineer and got his B.S. in bioengineering from the University of California at San Diego. As interesting as engineering was, something was still "missing". After graduating, he volunteered at the VA Medical Center in La Jolla where he developed his interest in medicine. He also began doing research at the UC San Diego Medical School where he studied the transcriptional regulation of epidermal development and wound healing under Dr. Bogi Andersen. He was later accepted to the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his third and fourth years in Phoenix, Arizona. After doing a sub-internship at Phoenix Baptist, Tod knew this was where he wanted to complete his family medicine training, graduating in 2007. He stayed as part of the faculty and continues to be involved in medical student education with all the schools here in the valley. His main interests are in sports medicine, dermatology, procedural medicine and preventive medicine. Outside of medicine, Tod enjoys going out to eat, cooking, watching movies, lifting weights and outdoor activities. While he goes back to Hawaii several times a year, he has grown to call Arizona home and plans to stay in Phoenix. |
