elective rotations

There are four rotations in addition to those listed in the Block Schedule that are required by the ACGME as part of residency training in Family Medicine. They are denoted as "selectives" in the curriculum, in that residents may choose to schedule them in either their second or third year of training. The selective rotations are:

Dermatology 4 weeks
ENT 2 weeks
Ophthalmology 2 weeks
Urology 2 weeks

A multitude of elective rotations are offered by the residency, including:

  • Allergy
  • Cardiology
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Endocrinology
  • HIV
  • Infectious Disease
  • Laboratory Medicine
  • Neurology
  • Obstetrics (Advanced)
  • Orthopedics
  • Pathology
  • Pediatrics
  • Pediatric Cardiology
  • Podiatry
  • Private Practice / Office Family Medicine
  • Pulmonology
  • Surgical Management of Breast Cancer Disorders

In addition, the residency provides the opportunity for residents to design their own rotations and to undertake "Away Rotations", where the resident travels elsewhere for specific training. Several residents in years past have taken advantage of this to travel abroad and learn about the provision of care in entirely different cultures.
